Album review from inrock.ru

Finally! One of the greatest Petrozavodsk bands - “Ascetics” produced their debut album.
About three years ago famous rhythm section and vocal duet “Va Ta GA” disbanded (does anyone know about Trey Gann? So, when he was talking about his favorite Russian bands –firstly he mentioned exactly about this one), and musicians decided to go separate ways. This is the short story how “Ascetics” appeared. And this project really differs from “Va Ta Ga”, there is no vocal and folklore music adaptation, but their music has something else - techno-acoustic fusion. They play different styles of music, and one can notice it on their life concerts, - space and psychedelic rock, trance and acid – jazz (without electronic sound).
First 2 songs "Intro"/"Strong" remind execution of ”The Ozric Tentacles” with repeated bass and guitar themes with percussion. Also one can find a new-age passages in the music. Ascetics differ from other space –rock groups by brevity and accurateness. Ascetics rarely use loop mode. The sound is clear, you can in details hear electric double – bass of Sergey Shelyapin, electric guitar (with electronic effects) of Alexey Derevlev, and percussion themes (drums) of Arcadiy Sokolov. These are the main musical instruments that are used, without trumpet and accordion in some songs.
One the one hand every time you listen to this album, you can’t get an exact impression about it. It is like a good background music that you put in comparison with drive and energy on their life concerts. On the other hand you can feel real magic and mystery sound in it. It’s your choice to decide…
